Arizona Coyotes Take Some Free Things From The Philadelphia Flyers
The Arizona Coyotes have acquired Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2022 second-round pick and a 2022 seventh-round pick. In return, the Philadelphia Flyers are receiving, well, nothing.
What's interesting about this deal is that Gostisbehere is still a productive offensive defenseman at the NHL level. Although he often gets criticized for his defensive play and was even waived by the Flyers this season, he is coming off of a pretty decent year of offensive production. In 41 games, he had nine goals and 20 points. That is almost an average of one point every two games, which is a pretty good pace for a player of his position.Official: We have acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, a 2022 second round draft choice and a 2022 seventh round draft choice from the @NHLFlyers. https://t.co/tT8gvQzPiL

Yet, this move gives the Flyers some much-needed cap space and rids them of a player they simply did not want anymore. Gostisbehere has two more years left on his current deal and it carries a $4.5 million cap hit. With this extra money, they can bring in a player who is a better fit on the team.
Regardless, this is a real win for the Coyotes. They got a solid NHL defenseman and a free second-round pick as well. That is not a bad thing for a team looking to improve.
