Big Update on Frederik Andersen's Future with the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in brining back Frederik Andersen, so much so they have decided to not grant him permission to speak to other teams before the free agency period begins on July 28.

While last season was a struggle for the one time elite netminder as he recorded a .895 save %, the team knows he's one of their best options to partner with Jack Campbell next season. It's going to come down to the cost per season and there's been reports earlier this month that the goaltender is looking for a raise on his $5 million salary. The Leafs won't be able to afford anything more than $3.5 million moving forward.

Andersen will receive a ton of interest on the open market, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators who recently lost Pekka Rinne to retirement. If Andersen wants to make more money, it's likely he leaves Toronto. If he wants to stick around and try and win with his best buddy Auston Matthews, then he stays.

At this point it looks like it's a coin flip on Andersen's future with the Maple Leafs.
