Bruins Sign Two Young Forwards to 1-Year Contracts
Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney announced today that the team has signed forwards Cameron Hughes and Joona Koppanen to 1-year, $750k contracts through the 2021-2022 season. Both contracts are two-way deals, with the players expected to spend most of their time with the Providence Bruins.
Hughes was drafted by the Bruins 165th overall in 2015. The 24-year old Edmonton native scored 5 goals and 16 assists in 25 games with Providence last year, his fourth season with the team. Hughes has two games of NHL experience with the Bruins, including one game last year against the Washington Capitals. He has yet to score his first NHL point.
Koppannen was selected by Boston thirty picks earlier than Hughes in the same Draft year, 135th overall. The big Finnish forward has four seasons with Providence to his name as well, scoring 3 goals and 3 assists in 21 games with the team last season. He has yet to make his NHL debut, but at 23-years old is looking ready to step on to the big stage for the first time. A big congratulations to both these players on signing their contract extensions.
