Buffalo Sabres Alternate Captain Set To Become Free Agent

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe will be hitting the open market. The 27-year-old had been one of Buffalo's alternate captains since the 2019-20 season.

McCabe has been a very solid defensive defenseman since entering the league, so he should get plenty of interest. He also has been praised for hitting ability, which is always a bonus to have on the backend. However, this season was a grueling one for him, as he injured his right knee's ACL, MCL and meniscus. He was limited to just 13 games, where he had a goal and three points. However, in those games, he was playing quite well.

Once McCabe gets healthy, he should be an excellent addition for a team looking for help on the penalty kill. That is where he makes his living because of his sound defensive work.

We will now have to wait and see where the veteran ends up signing.
