Carolina Hurricanes Sign Derek Stepan
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed center Derek Stepan to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.
At this point of his career, Stepan is more of a bottom-six forward. With the Hurricanes, he should end up playing fourth-line minutes and could even get a bit of time on their penalty kill. Even though the offensive side of his game has decreased as he's aged, he still can be quite dependable in the defensive end.Welcome to Carolina, Derek!

This past season was a rough one for Stepan. After requesting a trade from the Ottawa Senators, he would get injured and would not be able return. This would happen before a deal could take place and he was just limited to 20 games on the year. In them, he scored a goal and recorded six points.
Stepan may not be the most glorious of signings, but this could still be a solid one for the Hurricanes. He has an abundance of experience and has been noted as a fantastic leader. That is something a competitive team like Carolina truly needs.
