Done Deal: Lightning Send Tyler Johnson to the Blackhawks
The Tampa Bay Lightning continue to work their magic as general manager Julien BriseBois traded Tyler Johnson and a 2nd-round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks for Brent Seabrook's contract.
Brent Seabrook had to agree to waive his NMC for the Chicago-Tampa deal to go through. Which he did. He’s not playing anymore but his contract is still on the books and therefore so is the NMC. Same as when Ryan Callahan agreed to waive NMC when his contract was moved to Ottawa

Not only did the #TBLightning solve immediate cap issues with this Tyler Johnson trade, they actually created ~$1.8M in additional space since they'll now operate in LTIR with Brent Seabrook's deal on the books.

BriseBois pulls it off again as the Lightning's financials are now in way better shape. Sure they did end up losing Johnson and an asset in the deal, but no salary was retained, so that's an added bonus.
As for the Blackhawks they continue to add salary and veteran talent. Chicago was busy on Tuesday as not only did they complete this deal, they acquired Marc-Andre Fleury. Considering it wasn't long ago the organization was sending out an apology letter to season ticket holders, their fan base must be loving the news. Let's see if Fleury ever makes it to opening night, as for Johnson, he'll be ready to go.
