Edmonton Oilers Re-Signing Veteran Goalie to Multi-Year Extension
Edmonton Oilers fans will have mixed emotions on Wednesday as the team lost defenseman Adam Larsson to the Seattle Kraken and now reports have surfaced the team is re-signing veteran goalie Mike Smith to a multi-year contract.
Expect a two-year deal in the $2M range. https://t.co/eTSCDFdwtW

A multi-year deal for a 39-year-old goaltender? A bit worrisome for sure, but general manager Ken Holland is a big fan of Smith and his loyalty certainly shows with this move.
Last season the netminder made $1.5 million on the cap and is likely to make the same or a little bit less considering the extra year on his deal. He was lights out for the Oil so you can't blame Holland too much for this one, as Smith posted a .923 save % and a 2.31 GAA. Unfortunately he wasn't able to keep it up in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and many questioned his durability.
Let's see how an 82-game season goes next year for the grizzled veteran.
