Expansion Draft: Los Angeles Kings Going to Lose Key Player to Seattle
The Seattle Kraken have July 17 marked on their calendars.as the deadline looms for every team in the NHL to submit their protected list for the expansion draft. From there the fun begins and the Kraken will announce their roster on July 21. Today we look at a couple of Los Angeles Kings who could be selected.
For educational purposes:
- Teams must submit their protected lists to the league by July 17
- Each team must submit a protected list of seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goalie OR eight skaters and one goalie
- Any player with a no-movement clause must be protected unless the player waives it
- Each team must expose two forwards, one defenseman, and one goalie who are under contract and played at least 40 games this past season or 70 combined games over the last two seasons
- Any player with a career-ending injury is exempt from selection
- All first- and second-year players, as well as unsigned draft picks, are exempt from selection
Kings Players to Watch:
Dustin Brown: The long-time King could potentially be left exposed and the Kraken will be taking a long look at him. Even though he's over paid and certainly in the back nine of his career, the expansion team is going to need veteran leadership and Brown is one of the best. Last season he recorded 31 points in 49 games, scoring 17 goals in his bounce back season. With only one season left on his deal paying him $5.87 million, it's a low-risk move for the Kraken who can easily cut ties. For the Kings, if they get Brown off their books for nothing, expect the team to go ALL IN on Jack Eichel.
Brendan Lemieux: The Kraken will need a pest and Claude's son is one of the best. He's fearless and will gladly stick up for his teammates any time. Lemieux has one season left on his deal paying him $1.55 million and while the Kings just acquired him last season, they would probably like to hold on to Brown instead.
