Free Agent Prediction: Dougie Hamilton Signs in New Jersey
The New Jersey Devils are trying to turn the corner and start winning meaningful hockey games. Their management team has been clear, they plan on adding some serious talent this summer and that brings us to one of the biggest names on the open market in Dougie Hamilton. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the hockey insider predicts Hamilton signs in Jersey.
Hamilton is drawing a ton of interest after the Carolina Hurricanes gave him permission to speak to other teams, even though the 'Canes have been clear their first priority is bringing back the mobile defenseman. Last season the 28-year-old d-man recorded 42 points in 55 games and has shown signs he's capable of topping 60 points in an 82-game season. Expect Hamilton's contract to come close to Seth Jones' AAV at $9.5 million per season.
We will keep our eyes peeled as this week is going to be nuts. The Devils are trying hard to get some pen to paper and we'll be following along to keep you posted.
