Gabriel Landeskog Disappointed with Avalanche Management
The contract negotiations between the Colorado Avalanche and their long-time captain Gabriel Landeskog are basically non-existent and Landeskog is starting to face reality he may not be back with the Avs next season. Needless to say he's extremely disappointed it's reached this point between the two.
Landeskog recently spoke to The Athletic's Peter Baugh and had this to say about the contract talks:
I can't help but be honest with you that I'm a little bit disappointed that it's gotten this far and it's had to come to this point. We'll see what happens. I'm still hopeful that we can agree on something and come to terms. But if it was up to me, I would have liked it to be done eight months ago, 10 months ago
If the 28-year-old hits the open market he's going to get a massive contract from somebody. The likes of the Seattle Kraken and St Louis Blues are two teams who will basically pay him whatever he wants. As for the Avalanche they have a ton of major decisions to make when it comes to contracts as starting netminder Philipp Grubauer is also up for renewal and so is restricted free-agent defenseman Cale Makar.
The team currently has $25 million in cap space, however only have 11 players on their active roster. Needless to say, the vultures are going to be circling in Colorado this summer.
