Golden Knights Bring On Laurent Brossoit

To fill the gaping hole left by Marc-Andre Fleury, the Vegas Golden Knights have signed Laurent Brossoit to a 2-year deal worth $2.325 million AAV. Brossoit is fresh off a pair of one-year contracts with the Winnipeg Jets, which most recently saw him making $1.5 million. This deal with Vegas will be a significant raise for the 28-year old netminder.

Brossoit was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames, 164th overall in 2011. He was eventually traded to Edmonton, where he saw his first NHL action, most notably as a backup for Cam Talbot for two seasons. When Mikko Koskinen arrived in Edmonton, Brossoit hit the free-agent market, eventually signing with Winnipeg, where he played backup to eventual Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck. Other than a down year in 2019-2020, Brossoit has seen his numbers improve significantly in his time with Winnipeg.

Vegas has landed their backup goalie, which all but solidifies Robin Lehner as their go-to starter for the next two years. The tandem of Lehner/Brossoit will be a downgrade from the two stars Vegas is used to seeing in goal, but can still carry their team to the post-season given what Vegas has to work with on defence.

What do you think about this goaltending aquisiton for Vegas?
