Golden Knights Sign Mattias Janmark To A 1-Year Deal
After making a strong case for himself during the 2021 playoffs, the Golden Knights have decided to hang on to Mattias Janmark, signing him to a 1-year deal at $2 million AAV. Janmark was moved from Chicago to Vegas at last year's trade deadline in exchange for draft picks. While he didn't dazzle immediately, Janmark did manage to score a hat trick in game 7 against the Minnesota Wild, which won over Vegas fans in an instant. It also apparently caught the attention of Vegas management, who'd like to take him for a full-season spin. That was Janmark's first career hat trick, but what a time to get it.
Drafted by Detroit 79th overall in 2013, Janmark never played a game for the Red Wings. Instead, he saw his first NHL action with the Dallas Stars, scoring 15 goals and 29 points in 73 games to kick off his NHL career. He followed that up with 19 goals and 34 points the next season, also with Dallas, but has since cooled off and rounded into form as a third-line winger with some scoring upside, averaging about 10 goals a season. For $2 million, Vegas will take that and run.
Janmark will be 29-years old when this new deal is up at the end of the 2021-2022 season. If playing in Vegas can jumpstart his offence back to where it was a few years ago, he could command a much bigger contract next summer.
What do you think of Vegas bringing back Janmark for another season?
