Jackets Sign RFA Alexandre Texier To A 2-Year Deal
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed young RFA Alexandre Texier to a 2-year, $1.525 million AAV bridge contract. Texier was a 2nd round pick of the Blue Jackets in 2017 and made an almost immediate impact with the team when he scored 2 goals and 3 points in 8 playoff games in 2018, helping Columbus sweep the Tampa Bay Lightning for their first series win in franchise history.
Texier is a native of Saint-Martin-d'Heres, France, making him one of the few NHL players to come out of France, one of twelve to be exact, joining the likes of Antoine Roussel and Pierre-Edouard Bellmare. At 21 years of age, he has already outscored 7 of them, currently ranked sixth in all-time scoring for French-born players, after just 87 games played.
Last season Texier scored 4 goals and 22 points in 49 games with the Blue Jackets. While his production has not ramped up as much as his initial impressions with the team might have suggested, he has still shown improvement in his game year after year, even with Columbus having an all-around rough go of it last season. Texier will be 24 years old when this deal is up, and will still be an RFA.
What do you think about the Blue Jackets hanging on to their young centreman?
