Luke Schenn Signs For Two Years With The Canucks
Luke Schenn will be making his return to Vancouver, signing a 2-year deal with the team worth $850k AAV. Schenn played 18 games with the Canucks in 2018-2019, before hitting free agency and signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning, winning the Stanley Cup in both of his seasons in Florida.
Drafted 5th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Schenn may be one of the most well-traveled players currently in the NHL. Most memorably, after 4 seasons in Toronto, Schenn was traded straight-up to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for James van Riemsdyk. Then he was involved in the trade that sent Vincent Lecavelier to the Kings, then the package which sent Michael Del Zotto to Anaheim. In all, between signings and trades, Schenn has played for seven NHL teams in his 13-year career.
While nothing compared to his first years in Toronto, Schenn has established himself as one of the best third-pairing Dmen in the league. While the offensive upside seen during his draft has never materialized in the NHL, he can play reliable shutdown minutes and keep himself healthy with the best of them. His signing helps fill out Vancouver's defence core after the Nate Schmidt trade that saw the Canucks ship him to Winnipeg.
