Mark Bergevin Confirms Awful News Regarding Shea Weber

According to Eric Engels, Marc Bergevin has confirmed that captain Shea Weber will not be playing this season due to multiple injuries. He also stated that it's unlikely he will ever be able to return.

This is just awful news. When watching Weber play this season, one likely wouldn't have been able to guess that he was in such severe pain. In 48 regular season games, he had six goals and 19 total points while playing on the team's top-pair. He also was an important piece of Montreal's strong postseason run because of his strong defensive play. He would tally six points in 22 playoff games.

Weber also has had a spectacular NHL career. Before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens, he was captain of the Nashville Predators, too. Although he is a great two-way defenseman in this league, he really does warrant praise for being such a spectacular leader. Not many players get to be an NHL captain, let alone for two different franchises.

In 1,038 career games, Weber has 224 goals and 589 points. If he truly never does return, it's been one great career for the veteran.
