Nate Schmidt Is Officially On The Move
After originally rejecting a trade there, Nate Schmidt has changed his mind and will be heading to the Winnipeg Jets. The Vancouver Canucks will be getting a 2022 third-round pick in return.
The Jets are continuing to strengthen up their blueline, as just last night they acquired Brendan Dillon from the Washington Capitals. These two could actually form a nice pair with another, as Schmidt is more known for playing on the right side. Dillon is more of a defensive defenseman, while Schmidt contributes more offensively.Once complete, the Jets send a 3rd round pick in 2022 to Vancouver for Schmidt. https://t.co/8HSNbQdyRT

This trade benefits the Canucks, too. Schmidt has a $5.95 million cap and they have key RFAs to re-sign. Now, they have more financial flexibility to do so. The Jets now have Schmidt under contract for the next four seasons and another top-four defenseman. Overall, this is a good move for both teams.
