Oilers and Tyson Barrie Closing in on Extension

After the Edmonton Oilers turned some heads with the Duncan Keith trade, Ken Holland is going to totally redeem himself. According to the semi-retired Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Oilers are creeping closer to a contract agreement with defenseman Tyson Barrie. This after reports surfaced Darnell Nurse is also sticking around.

As for Barrie he led the NHL in points by defenseman after signing a one-year audition contract that appears to have paid off. At this point it's not known the term or average annual value. Last season the offensive defenseman recorded 48 points in 56 games and with Edmonton likely landing Zach Hyman, their power play is going to have a net front presence. Expect Barrie to have another great season and could potentially be paired with Duncan Keith to give the Oilers and interesting duo.

There was some chatter throughout the early summer that the 30-year-old was potentially heading back to the Colorado Avalanche. Apparently always plan B. The veteran defenseman took a gamble last year and it worked. Barrie reminds us all, always bet on yourself.
