Ottawa Senators Matt Murray Not Focused on Seattle Draft
The Ottawa Senators submitted their list of protected players to the Seattle Kraken and it turns out starting netminder Matt Murray did not make the list. The goalie will be exposed to the Kraken who can take him off the Senators hands come July 21.
Murray's agent met up with the media on Sunday and had this to say about the process:
Matt gets it 100% and he’s fine with it. Pierre (Dorion) explained to Matt that they don’t want to lose him and based on their educated guess they don’t believe they will. The Senators don’t feel this will be a big risk to the team. He’s very focused on getting off to a great start and being healthy. He’s very excited about that team and the young talent they have. He believes that each year they’re going to get better and better.
The 27-year-old Murray struggled in his first season in Ottawa, recording a 3.38 GAA and a .893 save % while making $6.25 million. With the likes of Carey Price, Braden Holtby, Chris Driedger, Kaapo Kahkonen, and Vitek Vanecek, it's likely the Senators get their goaltender back, while also ensuring 23-year-old goalie of the future Filip Gustavsson remains with the organization.
