Rangers Sign Patrik Nemeth to a 3-Year Deal
The New York Rangers have signed left-shot defenceman Patrik Nemeth to a three-year deal at $2.5 million AAV. Nemeth played 39 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season before returning for a second stint with the Colorado Avalanche at the NHL Trade Deadline. Nemeth, 29, will be 31-years old when his new contract is up.
Patrik Nemeth was drafted 41st overall by Dallas in 2010. He made his debut with the Stars in 2013 and spent the better part of four seasons with the team, before being sent to Colorado where he had his best season in 2017-2018, scoring 3 goals and 15 points while being a +27 on the year. Nemeth signed another 1-year deal with the Avs, but his game regressed somewhat, and he hit the free-agent market the next summer, signing with Detroit for two years. The Rangers will be Nemeth's third team in three years.
From the Rangers' perspective, they have landed a solid defensive defenceman who can put up very appealing numbers on a good team but struggles to play at the same level on teams with a lower skill ceiling. With the Rangers being on the cusp of calling themselves Cup contenders, Nemeth's style should fit right in on their blueline.
