Report: Kraken Are Debating On Taking Star Goalie At Expansion Draft
The Seattle Kraken are currently having in-depth conversations about whether or not they should take Carey Price at the Expansion Draft, according to Pierre LeBrun.
It’s a hefty contract to be sure, but I’m told the Seattle Kraken are taking a deep dive internally on whether or not to take Carey Price in the expansion draft. My guess is they don’t in the end, but I do think there’s a better chance of it than I first thought. Intriguing.

This in an interesting development, as it does show that the Kraken are at least considering Price. If it were not for his large contract, taking him would honestly be a no-brainer. He is an elite goalie at the NHL level and proved it yet again with his great postseason run this year. However, the 34-year-old has five years left on his deal and it carries a monstrous $10.5 million cap hit.
Yet, like LeBrun stated, this does make the possibility of them taking him a bit higher than before. However, that also does not mean that it is set in stone.
In 25 regular games this season, Price did have his struggles, though. He had a respectable 12-7-5 record, but also had a very low .901 save percentage. He did of course completely flip the script in the postseason, as he led the underdog Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final. His .925 save percentage was also significantly better.
We will find out soon if the Kraken do end up taking him. If this does come into fruition, it will quite strange not seeing Price in a Canadiens sweater anymore.
