Rumor: 3 Teams Making a Run at Trading for Jack Eichel
Jack Eichel's agents recently commented on their client's future and it's clear he will be traded eventually from the Buffalo Sabres. If you ask one of hockey's biggest insiders, Elliotte Friedman, he'll tell you Anaheim, Calgary and Minnesota are all very much interested in completing a deal.
The Ducks are looking to find a replacement for Ryan Getzlaf, or someone he can pass the torch to as they play together next season. The Flames have some more money to spend after losing captain Mark Giordano, and it's obvious they want to make some big time improvements to their top-six forward group. And lastly the Wild have been close to pulling the trigger on the Sabres needs, but the organization is currently split 50/50 on if they want to pay the price to land Eichel from Buffalo.
Friedman would go on to report:
He’s skating, but it’s believed he will still need surgery — although the Sabres haven’t approved his preferred choice, a disc replacement.
Adams moved Sam Reinhart (to Florida) and Rasmus Ristolainen (to Philadelphia) and maintains he will do the same with the captain once it makes sense for Buffalo. The hardest thing to handicap is who is in and who is out as a trade partner, because some teams back away at times, only to re-engage at a later point.
My guesses right now are some combination of Anaheim, Calgary, Minnesota and others I’m probably missing. Teammate Eric Engels reported Sunday he doesn’t think it will be Montreal. From what I’ve heard, the Canadiens have engaged, but not anywhere near a point Buffalo would say yes. The Rangers and Sabres have not been close in their conversations.
