Rumor: Maple Leafs Want To Sign This Former Hart Trophy Winner

With Zach Hyman's time in Toronto likely over, the Maple Leafs will need to find a replacement for him in their top-six. Darren Dreger of TSN has stated that the Maple Leafs are interested in pending UFA, Taylor Hall. It is important to note that the Bruins are still working hard to re-sign him and Hall has said that he wants to stay in Boston multiple times.

However, if Hall does hit the open market, the Leafs will try to sign him. It ultimately makes sense, as he is a player who would fit in Toronto's offense-first system. Hall could instantly be slotted on the first-line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. That would be an intimidating trio for opposing teams to square up against.

There is some risk in signing Hall, though. He was two entirely different players this season. With the Sabres, he only scored two goals and recorded 19 points in 37 games. Yet, after being traded to the Bruins, he was fantastic. He registered 8 goals and 6 assists in just 16 games. If Hall can carry that success over to the Leafs, it would be a great signing for them.

Hall has stated that he is willing to take a pay cut to stay in Boston, but that may not be true if he signs elsewhere via free agency. However, if the Leafs can get him on a three-year deal at around $5 million per season, that seems like something worth exploring. The Bruins need to be very aggressive in bringing him back or he may end up signing with one of their biggest rivals this summer.
