Rumor: Montreal Canadiens Contact Buffalo Sabres About Jack Eichel Trade

According to reports, the Montreal Canadiens have been in contact with the Buffalo Sabres and have discussed the asking price for their captain Jack Eichel. Any move between the Sabres and Canadiens would be very unlikely as it's rare to see a star dealt within the same division.

IF the Canadiens were to land Eichel from the Sabres, it would be at an all-time cost. The likes of Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Alexander Romanov would likely be the starting point for Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams, with an additional ask of at least one top prospect and a first-round pick. Again, this is why you never see teams in the same division complete blockbuster deals, because one team ends up selling the entire farm.

Eichel is available, but the Sabres have recently mentioned they are willing to start the season with him on their roster. This is a much different tone then we have heard recently, however, it's eventually going to happen, Eichel will be dealt out of Buffalo. As for Montreal, Mr. Timmins suggests they have been in contact, but the likelihood is minimal at this point.
