Rumor: Pittsburgh Penguins to Sign Veteran Winger

The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking at many options to replace a couple of big holes on their left side and have apparently zeroed in on free agent to be Brandon Saad. Saad is a resident of Pittsburgh and would be heading home to finally join the Penguins.

Last season in Colorado Saad had a decent regular season and then turned on the jets in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He finished the season with 24 points in 44 games and then went on to score seven times in 10 postseason games. Impressive stuff from the winger who could fit in nicely in Pittsburgh on the team's second-line with Evgeni Malkin.

Saad made $6 million last season and is likely to be around that ball park on his next contract, however the Penguins could get him to lower his cost by adding more term to the deal. As he's only 28 at the moment, it could certainly be the route Ron Hextall and Brian Burke decide to take.

As for other teams who will have interest, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet points out the New York Islanders, LA Kings and St Louis Blues will all have different levels of interest.
