Ryan Dzingel Signs A 1-Year Deal With The Coyotes
In his annual quest to be moved at the trade deadline, Ryan Dzingel has signed a 1-year deal with the Arizona Coyotes, valued at $1.1 million AAV. The 29-year old forward has appeared in 372 NHL games for Ottawa, Carolina, and Columbus. He has scored 82 goals and 180 points in his career.
Dzingel was drafted 204th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2011, a 7th round pick with some offensive upside. He played 3 years at Ohio State, followed by three seasons with Binghamton, the Sens' AHL affiliate. He was called up to the Senators in the middle of the 2015-2016 season, and he never left. While Dzingel played his best hockey in Ottawa, grinding himself out a pair of 20-goal seasons - including 22 goals in 57 games in 2018-2019 - he was eventually traded to Columbus while Ottawa began their rebuild. Dzingel never quite found his scoring touch again, potting 1 goal in the playoffs with Columbus, then signing with Carolina in the offseason. He scored 8 goals and 29 points with the Canes in 64 games during the 2019-2020 season. Last season, he scored 2 goals and 4 points with Carolina before being traded back to Ottawa. He saw a brief burst of offense upon his return to the team that drafted him but cooled off before long, finishing with just 6 goals and 9 points in 29 games.
Now signing in Arizona, Dzingel has the chance to be as much of an offense-driver as he'd like. He could possibly end up on a line with Phil Kessel before it's all said and done, and there aren't many on the Coyotes' current roster that will be pushing him out of the top 6. The good news is, if it doesn't work out in Arizona, the team will be more than happy to move him at the trade deadline, something Dzingel is getting very familiar with.
