Tampa Bay Lightning Trade Barclay Goodrow To New York Rangers
The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded pending unrestricted free agent Barclay Goodrow to the New York Rangers for a 2022 seventh-round pick. The Rangers now have the chance to sign the 28-year-old forward before he hits the open market.
In 55 games this season, Goodrow scored six goals and registered 20 points. He also scored two goals and recorded six points in 18 playoff games.
He was a very important piece of the Lightning's back-to-back Stanley Cup wins because of his hard work ethic and strong defensive play. He is exactly the type of player the Rangers need for their middle-six, so they will work extremely hard to sign him.
The Lightning certainly would have loved to re-sign him, but they of course are over the cap and couldn't. It is good that they managed to get a draft pick for him, even if it's a seventh. Sometimes teams can find steals in the later rounds.
We will have to wait and see if Goodrow decides to sign with the Rangers. He sure would be a great addition for them if it ends up occurring.
