The Minnesota Wild Sign Top-Four Defenseman
The Minnesota Wild have signed Alex Goligoski to a one-year, $5 million contract. It has a full no-movement clause.
Goligoski is a Minnesota native, so he will now have the chance to play for his home state. The 35-year-old defenseman is still an effective top-four defenseman and is able to contribute offensively quite well. He is essentially the replacement for recently bought out defenseman Ryan Suter.
In 43 games this season with the Arizona Coyotes, Goligoski scored seven goals and recorded 21 points. This is certainly respectable production and he should slot nicely on their second-pair because of this element of his game. Furthermore, one has to assume that he will be getting powerplay time because of his ability to lead the offense.
This one-year deal carries virtually no risk and having Goligoski should benefit the Wild moving forward.
