The Philadelphia Flyers Have Signed A Veteran Forward For 1 Year
Philadelphia continues its roster restructuring, signing forward Nate Thompson to a 1-year deal worth $800k AAV. Thompson is a 15-year NHL veteran who has plenty of experience in terms of games played and teams he's played for. In fact, Thompson has played for Philly before, 7 regular-season games in 2019-2020 after being traded by the Montreal Canadiens.
Drafted 183rd overall by Boston in 2003, Thompson has been around the league a long time. He has played games for Boston, the Islanders, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, Ottawa, LA, Montreal, Winnipeg, and now Philly. He has scored 64 goals and 161 points in 811 career NHL games and added 8 goals and 21 points in 86 playoff games.
Thompson's signing in Philly allows him to complete some potentially unfinished business with the Flyers, given his last time through saw the season abruptly halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thompson played 16 playoff games for Philly that year, but the team had lost its mojo by the time the restart took place, and Thompson only managed 1 goal in that time. Thompson will be 37-years old this time next summer when his new contract expires.
