The Toronto Maple Leafs Sign An Enforcer

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed winger Kurtis Gabriel to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

Gabriel is known primarily for being a very physical player who often drops the gloves. In 11 games this season with the San Jose Sharks, he did not record a point, but compiled 55 total penalty minutes. From a statistical standpoint, that equates to a fight-per-game.

In 49 career games, the 28-year-old has two goals and five points. He also has 153 penalty minutes under his belt in such limited NHL action.

Gabriel will likely be a depth forward for the Maple Leafs and should get some action when injuries arise. Toronto has often been criticized for not being tough enough, but Gabriel should easily be able to help fix that issue when given the chance to play.
