Tony DeAngelo Has A New Home
Recently bought out defenseman Tony DeAngelo is already set to join a new team. According to Frank Seravalli, the Carolina Hurricanes are expected to sign him to a one-year contract.
DeAngelo was cut from the New York Rangers this season after starting a physical conflict with goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. This was after an already well-known controversial past, so the team felt that it was time to move forward. He would only appear in six games and recorded one assist.Hearing #Canes are closing in on an agreement with UFA D Tony DeAngelo.

Not done yet. But expecting a 1-year deal. There was lots of interest and the opportunity to play for Rod Brind'Amour was appealing.@DFOHockey
However, when DeAngelo is on his game and not being a distraction, he is a very solid top-four, offensive defenseman. In 2019-20, the 25-year-old had 15 goals and 53 points, which was very impressive. If he can replicate those totals with the Hurricanes, he would be a good replacement for pending UFA Dougie Hamilton in terms of offense.
DeAngelo now has the chance to have a clean slate on a new team. We will see if he behaves himself better this time around.
