Toronto Maple Leafs Hire New Assistant Coach
The Toronto Maple Leafs have added to their bench as the team announced the signing of Dean Chynoweth to serve as the team's assistant coach. Chynoweth coached last season with the Hurricanes in Carolina.
The Leafs newest coach is very well known for his penalty killing systems that are aggressive as ever and one of the reasons the Hurricanes have been near the top of the league in this category. The 52-year-old coach replaces former assistant coach Dave Hakstol who recently joined the Seattle Kraken as the team's first head coach.
Prior to joining the Hurricanes, Chynoweth served nine seasons coaching in the Western Hockey League, before making his way to an assistant gig with the New York Islanders. He then spent four seasons as a head coach in the American Hockey League and has also coached Team Canada's Under 18 National team.
Great hire for the Maple Leafs!
I don't know much about Dean Chynoweth, other than I've loved Carolina's PK in recent years.

He did have some great defensive players to use, but that PK was miserable to go up against. The Leafs could never gain the zone against them. SUPER aggressive at the line. https://t.co/SJ34vtXnEd
