Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Ondrej Kase

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed winger Ondrej Kase to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.

Kase has the potential to be a scoring winger in the NHL, but has had serious injury trouble over the last few seasons. In fact, after being traded to the Boston Bruins in 2019-20, he would go on to only play in nine total regular season games over two seasons. In them, he only had one assist. He would miss almost the entirety of this season after receiving a concussion. He did come back for one last game, but was taken out after being the recipient of another heavy hit.

He does have a 20-goal season under his belt, but that was back with the Anaheim Ducks during 2017-18. He also scored 11 goals in 30 games the year after, but again, had injury trouble that shortened his season.

If Kase can remain healthy, he can be a nice signing for the Leafs, especially at that price. If all goes according to plan, he will have the chance to play with some real offensive threats in Toronto. Therefore, he could very well provide solid depth scoring. It just is a matter of both getting and remaining healthy.
