Vancouver Canucks May Buyout Veteran Goalie

The Vancouver Canucks have been trying to move Braden Holtby, but nothing has happened yet. According to Frank Seravalli, he is now a player who may be bought out shortly.

Last off-season, Holtby signed a two-year, $8.6 million contract with the Canucks. He was coming off of a down year, but there was reason to believe that he would rebound from it. However, he struggled even more in his first season in Vancouver, as he had a 7-11-3 record and a very low .889 save percentage. That was not what they expected when they signed him.

With the Canucks needing to re-sign RFAs Elias Petersson and Quinn Hughes, they could use the extra cap space. Therefore, a Holtby buyout would ultimately make sense. In fact, one could even argue that it should be encouraged because of this.

The Canucks have two days to finalize the buyout before the window closes, so keep a close eye on it.
