Video: The Arizona Coyotes Have Another Doan!
Shane Doan spent the entirety of his NHL career with the Coyotes franchise. In 1,540 games with the franchise, including 74 with the original Winnipeg Jets, he had 402 goals and 972 points. He is the most popular player in their history and now, his son is a part of the team. The Coyotes have taken winger Josh Doan with the 37th pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The video above shows Shane's reaction to the news.
It is awesome that Josh will now have the chance to play for the Coyotes like his father. Expecting him to put out as spectacular of a career as his father is a big reach, but that does not mean he will not be a good NHLer. In fact, his hard work ethic and notable improvement this past year shows he has a real shot of making the league.
He had a breakout season with the Chicago Steel of the USHL that saw him score 31 goals and register 70 points in 53 games. It was significant improvement from his previous year, as he only had 14 points in 45 games with the team then. Now, he is set to join Arizona State University next season and will continue to improve upon his craft. He is only 19-years-old, so there is real room for growth.
All of hockey should be pulling for Josh to succeed, as it would be amazing to see him rock a Coyotes jersey just like dad. He would be their first hometown kid ever, too.
