Washington Capitals Re-Sign Young Winger
The Washington Capitals have re-signed Beck Malenstyn to one-year, two-way contract. It carries a $750,000 cap hit at the NHL level and a $90,000 one in the minors. Malenstyn is a very interesting prospect for the Capitals, as he plays very physically and seems like a potential bottom-six forward for them moving forward.
The Capitals drafted the 23-year-old left winger with the 145th pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has played in three games with the team and did not record any points. In 120 AHL games with the Hershey Bears, he has scored 14 goals and registered 31 points in total. He showed significant progress his second season with the club, though, as he had one less point in 28 less games than his rookie year.
He went on to miss the entirety of the 2020-21 season after tearing his Achilles tendon. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back after such a serious injury. The 6'3" 200-pound forward has the tools to be a very imposing fourth-liner for the Capitals in the future. Here's to hoping he gets some chances this season with the team.
