2 Possible Landing Spots For Erik Gudbranson

At this said time, Erik Gudbranson is still a free agent. The 6'5" 222-pound defenseman could be a nice addition for any team looking to add some size and toughness to the backend. In 45 games this season between the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators, the 29-year-old scored a goal and had four points. Although he will never light up the scoresheet, he can be hard to play against because of his tenacity and defense-first style. These two teams should consider signing him to a cheap deal.

Buffalo Sabres: The Buffalo Sabres may be having a fire sale, but they also have over $28 million available and need to reach the cap floor. With the departure of Rasmus Ristolainen, it would not hurt to add another big right-handed defenseman. Although Gudbranson is certainly not at the same level as Ristolainen, he could be a good player to have around because of his toughness and overall experience. He could help mentor the Sabres' young guys.

New York Rangers: The New York Rangers keep bringing in very physical players and Gudbranson fits that description, too. The Rangers also could use him on their bottom-pair if Nils Lundqvist ends up not being ready for the NHL. The Rangers have a decent amount of cap space to work with, so they would have no trouble bringing him in. When seeing as how often injuries occur, it would not be a bad thing to have him as, at a minimum, a 7th defenseman.
