2 Teams Who Should Sign Erik Gustafsson

Erik Gustafsson is still a free agent and waiting for a contract. At this juncture, it will surely be a cheap one if he gets signed, as we are getting closer to September. Gustafsson is a fascinating offensive defenseman. During the 2918-19 season with the Chicago Blackhawks, he scored a whopping 17 goals and had 60 points in 79 games. However, he has not been able to replicate those totals since. In 29 games this past season between the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens, he had a goal and 12 points. Yet, it was just two seasons before that he had such an impressive offensive season. Could that be enough for a team to give him a shot? These two should consider it.

St. Louis Blues: The Blues could use enough puck-moving defenseman, as they lost Vince Dunn to the Seattle Kraken at the Expansion Draft. Gustafsson could be a cheap option for the bottom-pair and could mesh well with Robert Bortuzzo. He also could be utilized on their second power play unit, as Torey Krug of course will be on their first one. The Blues' left side is not looking complete yet, so giving a guy like Gustafsson a shot could be a good move on their end.

Florida Panthers: Gustafsson could also fight for a spot on the Florida Panthers. With the team buying out Keith Yandle this off-season, they too would benefit from adding another offensive defenseman. Even if Gustafsson was utilized as a seventh defenseman with the team, it could be worthwhile. Contenders need to have as much depth as possible, so Florida could elect to give him a call.

Where do you feel the 29-year-old defenseman should sign?
