2 Teams Who Should Sign Veteran Defenseman Jason Demers

One free agent defenseman who is still available to sign is veteran Jason Demers. In 41 games this past season with the Arizona Coyotes, the 33-year-old had four assists. Although he is no longer able to contribute 20-point seasons at this said juncture, he still could be worth adding as a bottom-pair defenseman or depth piece. This is especially the case when seeing as how bringing him would not be expensive at all. Here are two teams who should consider signing him.

Montreal Canadiens: With the loss of Shea Weber due to injury, the Canadiens have already signed David Savard and Chris Wideman. Yet, the latter has not played in the NHL since the 2018-19 season, so adding Demers as insurance would not be a bad thing. He could even fill out the bottom-pair quite nicely and it also does not hurt that he's a Quebec native. He would not be the most glorious of signings, but also could benefit the team with his overall experience.

Colorado Avalanche: The Colorado Avalanche are among the Stanley Cup favorites heading into next season. A common theme from recent champions is that they have had a ton of depth. The Avalanche could use a guy like Demers as backup, as injuries occur very frequently in this league. Erik Johnson's health is also a big question mark moving into next season, so adding another veteran right-handed defenseman like Demers would be a smart idea on their end.
