Anaheim Ducks: 2 Prospects Who Could Make The Team Next Season

Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.

In this final article of the segment, we will be looking at the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks may be rebuilding, but they already are forming a very strong cast of prospects. With Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale leading the charge, the future very well looks bright. However, in this piece, we will be aiming to shine a light on two other prospects in their system. With Zegras and Drysdale already having NHL experience, it is clear they will be back. These two could very well follow suit.

Lukáš Dostál G: Lukáš Dostál is becoming a big-name prospect for the Ducks. The 2018 third-round pick had spectacular seasons in both Liiga and the AHL this past year. In 11 games with Ilves, he had a 10-1 record and a stellar .941 SV%. He would then play 24 games with the San Diego Gulls and continued to have success. He sported a 15-9 record and had a .916 SV%. With the retirement of Ryan Miller, Dostál has a real shot of obtaining the backup job next season. The 21-year-old looks to have a bright future and should form a strong tandem with John Gibson as he continues to progress.

Mason McTavish C: Mason McTavish may have just been drafted third overall last month, but he could very well make the team out of camp. The 18-year-old kid is a goal-scoring power forward who already is strong enough for the NHL. The Ducks also do not have a ton of forward depth, so he could wiggle his way into the lineup. He already has professional hockey experience, too, as he played in the SL this past season with EHC Olten. In 13 games, he scored a notable nine goals and had 11 points. He also was captain of the Canada U18 team at the World Junior Championships. In seven games, he dominated, as he scored five goals and had 11 points. The Ducks need offense badly and if McTavish can have a good camp, he may be able to help them with that.
