Anaheim Ducks: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section.

In this piece, we will be looking at the Anaheim Ducks. They were perhaps the least active team out of the entire bunch this summer. Thus, they did not necessarily gain or lose anyone of significance. However, they did extend some of their important young players and were able to re-sign Ryan Getzlaf. That has to count for something, right?

Best Addition: Greg Pateryn D

Like previously stated, the Ducks did not add much this off-season. However, what some may not know is that they did in fact sign defenseman Greg Pateryn to a one-year, two-way deal. It was an under-the-radar signing, but he could be a nice depth piece for them. In 13 games this season between the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks, he had three assists. He seems like a potential seventh defenseman for them moving forward. Also, honorable mention goes out to big forward, Buddy Robinson. In 21 career NHL games, he has two goals and an assist.

Worst Subtraction: LW Danton Heinen

The Ducks have not lost much of anything this summer, either. However, they did let Danton Heinen go after a bit of a down year. In 33 games. he scored three goals and had nine points. He signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and hopes to regroup. He was acquired from the Boston Bruins during the 2019-20 season in exchange for Nick Ritchie, who also left Boston this off-season. Losing Heinen is not a significant loss, but he has had decent offensive success in the past. In 2017-18, he even had 47 points in 77 games.
