Boston Bruins Having Extension Talks With Captain Patrice Bergeron
Patrice Bergeron is about to enter his 18th season with the Boston Bruins and his second as their captain. Yet, he may be there even longer, as both parties are discussing the possibility of an extension. His contract is set to expire after this completion of this upcoming season.
From the very beginning of Bergeron's tenure with the Bruins, he has been an integral part of their lineup. He made the team as an 18-year-old kid after being drafted in the second-round by them that same summer. Since then, he has played in 1,143 games as a Bruin, where he has scored 375 goals and recorded 917 points. During that time, he has won four Selke Trophies, too.Patrice Bergeron has discussed a contract extension with the Bruins and however long the forward wants to stay with the team is up to him, general manager Don Sweeney said Friday.https://t.co/ekETfvMOjR

Even at 36-years-old now, he has yet to show any true signs of regression. In 54 games this season, he had 23 goals to go along with 48 points. The Bruins certainly want to keep him around because of his excellent two-way play. Also, he is the heart of their lethal first-line. Also, they just lost David Krejci, so they cannot afford to lose another big-name center next off-season.
We will see if an extension comes into fruition. It would be interesting to see Bergeron end up playing 20 seasons with the team. Not many players last that long with one organization.
