Buffalo Sabres: 2 Prospects Who Should Make The Team Next Season
Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.
In this piece, we will be looking at the Buffalo Sabres. After a historically bad season, the Sabres are once again blowing everything up. They already traded away Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Ristolainen. Jack Eichel is expected to go next. Although this is disheartening to fans, they do have some prospects to look forward to. With the way their roster is currently constructed, it is fair to state that these two players have a shot of making the team next season.
One thing to note, 2021 first overall pick Owen Power will not be on this list because he has yet to sign his entry-level contract. He already stated that he's leaning more towards going back to school as well. If he ends up changing his mind and signing a deal, he surely will play for Buffalo, though.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen G: The Sabres added two goaltenders in Craig Anderson and Aaron Dell this off-season. However, given the fact that each of them barely played in the NHL last season, Luukkonen does have a real chance of making the team. In fact, forming a tandem between him and Anderson could be quite beneficial for his development, as the latter would be a great mentor. He also did not look bad in his four games with the Sabres this season, as he went 1-3 and had a respectable .906 SV%. If he has a strong camp, expect to see him as at least the backup next season.
Jack Quinn RW: The Sabres should consider giving Jack Quinn a chance at the NHL level next season. In 15 games with the Rochester Americans this past season, he scored two goals and recorded nine points. He is a player who is expected to come with strong goal-scoring ability, as he scored 52 goals in 62 games with the Ottawa 67s during the 2019-20 season. The Sabres do not possess the strongest forward group either, so he could very well sneak his way onto their third-line. He is just 19-years-old, so there is no need to rush him. However, when looking at his success in juniors, it could be worth giving him a shot this upcoming season.
