Buffalo Sabres Legendary Announcer Rick Jeanneret Returning For Final Season

Buffalo Sabres' legendary announcer Rick Jeanneret will be returning for one last season. It will be his 51st year with Buffalo, which is the longest any announcer has lasted with one team. That is simply unbelievable.

Jeanneret started with the Sabres' back during the 1971-72 season. He was on radio originally with the team, but then moved to television at the start of the 1995-96 season. However, he started doing both together during the 1997-98 season and has not stopped since.

For an announcer to last this long, they need to be able to remain entertaining. RJ has handled that with ease, as he is one of the most recognized and iconic voices in the league. He is also responsible for some of the most memorable calls in the entire sport. His legendary "May Day" call on Brad May's 1993 OT series-clinching goal against the Boston Bruins will forever be a classic moment for the sport.

The same can be said with his Pat LaFontaine calls.

It's exciting to hear that he is coming back. but it is sad that this will be his last go-around. It always is hard when a popular announcer calls it a career. Yet, he has had quite a fantastic one. He's already been inducted into the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame, Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame and Hockey Hall of Fame after winning the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award.
