Calgary Flames: 2 Players Who Will Bounce Back Next Season
With the off-season starting to slow down a bit, we now have a better idea of every team's roster going into next season. Of course there will be other moves, but the craziness from the Expansion Draft and first day of free agency is officially done.
In this segment, we will be taking a look at two players from each NHL team who are set to bounce back next season. Sometimes players will have down seasons, but end up completely turning it around in the following one. This will inevitably happen for this upcoming year, too. With this specific piece, let's look at the Calgary Flames.
The Flames missed the postseason this past year, as they were four points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the last playoff spot in the North Division. Calgary sure has some good players on their roster, so there is reason to believe they can get back into the playoffs next season. They added forward Blake Coleman, but also notably lost captain Mark Giordano. Thus, they need these two specific players to find their old forms next season if they hope to crawl themselves back into the playoffs.
Jacob Markstrom G: The Flames signed Jacob Markstrom to a six-year, $36 million contract after his strong tenure with the Vancouver Canucks. Yet, he struggled in his first season with the Flames, as he had a 22-19-2 record with a low .904 save percentage. In the season before with Vancouver, he had a .918 save percentage in 43 games as well. Given his past success, it is fair to assume he will perform better this upcoming season.
Sean Monahan C: In 50 games this season, Sean Monahan had 10 goals and only 28 points. Keep in mind, just two seasons ago, he had 82 points in 78 games played. This is a player who has shown that he can be an effective top-six center, so this past season was disappointing for him from a statistical standpoint. Yet, he is still only 26-years-old, so him rebounding is not a far-fetched notion. In fact, it's fair to argue that it's likely. Besides his 82-point season, Monahan has hit the 60-point plateau on three separate occasions, too.
