Carolina Hurricanes: 2 Players Who Will Bounce Back Next Season
With the off-season starting to slow down a bit, we now have a better idea of every team's roster going into next season. Of course there will be other moves, but the craziness from the Expansion Draft and first day of free agency is officially done.
In this segment, we will be taking a look at two players from each NHL team who are set to bounce back next season. Sometimes players will have down seasons, but end up completely turning it around in the following one. This will inevitably happen for this upcoming year, too. For this article, we will be focusing on the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Carolina Hurricanes have made so many changes to their roster. They most notably lost Dougie Hamilton to the New Jersey Devils via free agency and traded Alex Nedeljkovic to the Detroit Red Wings. There are some question marks heading into this season, but overall, they still look at least competitive. Their two players who should bounce back next season are actually both recent acquisitions.
Frederik Andersen G: The Hurricanes signed Frederik Andersen to a two-year, $9 million contract, but he is coming off of a rough season. In 24 games with the Maple Leafs, he had a 13-8-3 record to go along with a low .895 save percentage. He lost his starting job to Jack Campbell in the process, but it also is important to remember he had injury trouble. Throughout his career, he's been a solid number one goaltender, so him regrouping is not out of the question. Perhaps a fresh start with the Hurricanes will lead to that.
Ethan Bear D: Ethan Bear is just 24-years-old and could develop into a top-four defenseman for the Hurricanes. Yet, this past season with the Oilers was a bit of step back for him, as he had two goals and just eight points in 43 games. However, in the season before, he had five goals and 21 points in 71 games. It seemed that a fresh start was needed after how this year played out for him. It would not be surprising to see him hit the 25-point plateau on a strong team in Carolina. This is especially the case if he is utilized on the power play.
