Colorado Avalanche Sign Ryan Murray

The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman Ryan Murray to a one-year, $2 million contract. He is likely their replacement for Ryan Graves.

This is a very good signing by the Avalanche. Murray has the ability to play top-four minutes, but sadly has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career. However, even with that being the case, getting a defenseman of his caliber at that low of a price is quite solid.

In 48 games this past season with the New Jersey Devils, the 27-year-old had 14 assists. He also was a +3 on a very bad Devils team. He also can be utilized on both the power play and penalty kill, as he is a simply a reliable two-way defenseman. Playing with a deep team like the Avalanche could help him reach new heights, too.

Overall, Murray will likely be on their bottom-pair because of how strong their defensive core is. He also can play on either side, so he can bounced around the lineup if needed.
