Dallas Stars: 2 Players Who Could Be Traded Next Season
The NHL offseason is underway and there's been a ton of movement so far this summer. Along with mega-contracts being handed out and an expansion draft in Seattle, there's been multiple trades that will have huge impacts on the 2021-22 NHL season. Trades will continue this summer and of course into next season, so we shift our focus to the next deal for each franchise.
Follow along as we highlight a couple of players from each team who are most likely to be traded next. Our last article we were in California with the Los Angeles Kings and today we make way to Big D and the Dallas Stars.
2 Stars Most Likely Getting Traded Next Season:
John Klingberg: The soon-to-be 29-year-old has been linked to trade talks recently and was apparently offered to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Seth Jones. While that deal never materialized for Dallas, Klingberg is a pending free agent and if a contract extension isn't complete before the trade deadline, look for the Stars to consider some offers. Klingberg is one of the more underrated defenseman in the league and last season recorded 36 points in 53 games. A lot of teams could use him on their power play.
Jake Oettinger: The young netminder is now stuck behind three capable goaltenders, who if they all can get/remain healthy, may push him out the door. Oettinger is only 22 and has some decent experience in the league, appearing in 29 games last season, and performing well. He posted a .911 save % and a 2.36 GAA with the Stars in 2020-21, and while it likely makes more sense to hold onto him for the future of the crease, if any of the veterans run away with the net, perhaps Dallas considers moving the young tender for a piece up front.
