Detroit Red Wings: 2 Players Who Could Be Traded Next Season
The NHL offseason is underway and there's been a ton of movement so far this summer. Along with mega-contracts being handed out and an expansion draft in Seattle, there's been multiple trades that will have huge impacts on the 2021-22 NHL season. Trades will continue this summer and of course into next season, so we shift our focus to the next deal for each franchise.
Follow along as we highlight a couple of players from each team who are most likely to be traded next. Our last article we touched on the New Jersey Devils and let's switch gears and head to Motown and the Detroit Red Wings.
2 Red Wings Most Likely to be Traded Next:
Frans Nielsen: The veteran has one year remaining on his contract and this will certainly be his last season in Detroit. It's likely to be a rental type of move at the deadline and Nielsen will have some say in the matter as he holds a 10-team modified no-trade clause. Last season the 37-year-old scored one goal and six points in 29 games. At $5.25 million on the cap, there's no doubt the Red Wings would have liked a mulligan on this signing.
All The Defensemen: Nick Leddy, Marc Staal, Troy Stecher, and Danny DeKeyser are all pending unrestricted free-agents next summer and will be some of the names on the rental market for defenders. The Red Wings are still rebuilding and could land a decent haul of draft picks moving everyone out. Stecher out of any of them has the best chance to stick around at 27 years old but expect some deals out of Detroit this upcoming season.
