Detroit Red Wings: 2 Prospects Who Should Make The Team Next Season
Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.
The Detroit Red Wings will be the team focused on in this piece. Their future is looking immensely bright, as general manager Steve Yzerman is building an extremely strong prospect pool. He also keeps making fantastic trades that only are benefitting the Red Wings more. These two prospects should each play their first full seasons in the league this year. They both seem ready and should be nice additions to the rebuilding club.
Joe Veleno C: Joe Veleno made his NHL debut this season with the Red Wings. However, the sample size was extremely small, as he only suited in five games and scored a goal. The 2018 first-round pick will likely get a fair share of time with the Red Wings this season. He could very well wiggle himself onto their third-line at the start of the season, as the Red Wings do not necessarily have the most depth upfront. Nonetheless, this should finally be the year that Veleno becomes a full-time NHLer.
Moritz Seider D: Moritz Seider seems ready for the NHL and could be newly acquired Nick Leddy's partner. Leddy is the perfect kind of veteran to help mentor Seider, as he has a ton of overall experience and is very dependable. In 41 games this season with Rögle BK of the SHL, Seider scored seven goals and recorded 28 points. He also was heavily praised for his strong play in the defensive zone. He also suited up in 10 games at the World Championships with Germany and had five assists. Keep in mind, he was playing against some NHL talent there, too. Red Wing fans should be ecstatic to see him join them this upcoming season.
