Edmonton Oilers Bringing Back Slater Koekkoek

The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Slater Koekkeok to a two-year contract. It will have an average annual value of $925,000.

Koekkeok will likely once again be a depth defenseman for the team. In 18 games with them this season, he scored a goal. Yet, during the 2019-20 season with the Chicago Blackhawks, he did show a bit more of an offensive touch. In 42 games, he scored one goal and recorded 10 points. Therefore, he may be able to provide a little more on the offensive side of the game next season.

Koekkeok was selected 10th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, but he never blossomed into a top-four NHL defenseman. Yet, he can be useful in a limited role and should be once again with the Oilers.

In 167 career games with the Lightning, Blackhawks and Oilers, he has scored eight goals and recorded 30 total points. We will see how he does these next two seasons with Edmonton.
